The Julia Butler Hansen house at 35 Butler Street beside the Wahkiakum County Courthouse is undergoing some necessary upgrades to prepare it for its role as a museum preserving the legacy of Julia, her mother Maude, and their part in the history of Cathlamet and the country. Carlson's Heating and Cooling has just completed their work to update the HVAC system and added humidity control to the system. Others doing work will be Townsend and Sons replacing the roof later this spring, and Computer Link NW replacing the security system.
As part of Heritage Days, the Friends of the Julia Butler Hansen will host an auction on May 9 at the Hotel Cathlamet (69 Main Street), from noon to 3pm. An online exhibit features photographs of the auction items, giving visitors a preview of pieces connected to local history and community heritage. See below for the current list as of March 27:
The live auction will be conducted by local auctioneer Brian McClain. Some items will be in the silent auction. See the complete list below. Proceeds support preservation and ongoing work connected to the Julia Butler Hansen House. Future fundraisers include: Tea at the JBH house with David Kimball Hansen (date TBD), 2nd Annual Pie and Ice Cream Social August 29, and house openings during the America's 250 celebrations, Bald Eagle Days, and the county fair.
